Producing Organic Milk
Milk, one of natures most perfect foods. It has always been an important part of a healthy diet for both children and adults. The dairy industry has very strict standards for the milk it offers for sale. Regular testing for antibiotics, bacteria and sediment is performed on every tank of milk picked up from the farms and no contaminated milk is accepted.
There is, however, a growing number of people who want to be absolutely certain about the purity of the food they eat and feed to their families. The organic certification provides that assurance to consumers.
Those who purchase dairy products made from the organic certified milk produced on Kimvale Farm can be sure the cows producing this milk are not treated with antibiotics or growth hormones, are fed only hay, corn and grain grown without use of pesticides or chemical fertilizer. There are numerous other specifications which must be followed to earn the organic certification. One of these is making pasture grazing available to the cattle as long as the weather permits. At Kimvale farm we practice intensive rotational grazing.
We shipped our first organic certified milk in June of 2006.As of May of 2007 our entire herd was certified organic. Our milk is shipped to and marketed by Upstate Farms.
